Thursday, November 4, 2021, is International Stout Day this year, and State Fare has the stock to satisfy it. International Stout Day takes place on the first Thursday of November and focuses on celebrating the awakening of craft beer.

The Long History of Stout Beer

Originally popular with the London working class in the early 1700s, “stout” beer was called “porter” beer. Eventually, the word “stout” took on the meaning of strong and became the term for strong beer like porters. A stout porter was a very strong, dark beer brewed by London workers on the port and stout beer today. The first stouts were brewed in the 1730s. Probably the most famous stout, Guinness, has been brewing porters since about 1780 and today is best known for their Dry and Irish Stouts.

Stout Beer Today

As the craft beer revolution has grown to popularity since its inception in the 1960s with homebrewers, stout beer has gained new flavors. With new craft beer equipment, brewers have been able to infuse stout with rich flavors. At State Fare, we offer some delicious options for a rich stout like our Aslin How Now Brown Cow With Peanut Butter, Chocolate, And Coffee, from a brewery in Herndon, VA. Thanks to local breweries, we have access to exceptional stouts that embody American ingenuity.

Other Delicious Options for Your International Stout Day Celebration

State Fare is a whiskey bar with excellent food and craft beers. Because stouts are heavy and rich, they tend to be drank alone or with a gourmet meal. Always ask your server what they think pairs best from our menu, but your best bet is the crab dip, the Bourbon Street Meatloaf, or the “The Steve-O”. A fun stout that we offer is the Checkerspot Keeper Stout. It is a milk stout, meaning it was brewed with lactose. The Checkerspot Keeper Stout is also brewed with crab shells, making it the perfect complement to our delicious crab cakes.
