Throughout most of the year, Tuesday is just the second day of the work week. But once a year, Tuesday becomes a day of celebration. Some people call it Mardi Gras Day while others know it as Shrove Day, but to most people, it’s just Fat Tuesday. There are many ways that people celebrate Fat Tuesday and if you live, work, or shop in Catonsville, making your way to State Fare is the perfect way to bring Bourbon Street to you.
Things to Come
Many people see Fat Tuesday as the day that starts the celebrations of Easter. It’s the day that precedes Ash Wednesday – the first day of Lent. The Lenten season is about fasting. It’s 46 days of abstaining from meat and many dairy products. Therefore, in preparation, Fat Tuesday has that name because it’s your last opportunity to enjoy a fully indulgent meal before the fast begins. Many people prepare large meals with courses, drinks, and dessert.
Connection to Mardi Gras
Mardi Gras and Fat Tuesday start on the same day. While Fat Tuesday is usually connected to eating great food, more people think of Margi Gras as a large carnival celebration. There are many people who participate in both and make a full day of it. You can start in the morning with a big breakfast and then participate in a parade or day party, enjoying music, dance, lots of colors, and more. One of the most famous fixtures of Mardi Gras/Fat Tuesday celebrations are the beads.
